JUI(F) Sindh leader for forging unity among political parties | 4/25/2008
Secretary General of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Senator Dr. Khalid Mehmood Soomro has stressed the need for forging unity and harmony among political parties to steer the country out of the present crises, while talking to newsmen at Halejvi Sharif, Pano Akil.

He expressed satisfaction over the new democratic setup and said the country has faced no major terrorist activity during the first forty days of the elected government.

It has proved that all issues could be resolved through dialogue, he added.

Dr. Khalid Soomro said the circumstances had forced rival political parties to sit together in greater national interest and hoped that their leaders would steer Pakistan out of crises by displaying political maturity and acumen.

He welcomed the release of Sufi Muhammad of Shariat-e-Muhammadi and said this step would help restore normalcy in thetribal belt.

Dr. Soomro assured ANP of his support in resolving the major issues but said his party would oppose any illegal or unconstitutional act.


Jirga resolves bloody dispute between two tribes | 4/15/2008
A Jirga imposed heavy fines on Mahar and Jatoi tribes for the killing of 65 people, in an attempt to end more than two decades of bloody dispute between the two tribes.

The Jirga held at the Circuit House Sukkur here, in the verdict they imposing a total of Rs 26.6 million fine on the two sides for killing 65 people since 2005.

The dispute has so far claimed more than 300 lives and left hundreds of people injured since 1985.

The Jirga found Mahar tribesmen guilty of killing 35 Jatois and the Jatois guilty of killing 30 Mahars since 2005, after hearing statements of affected parties. Rs 400,000 fine had been imposed for the murder of a man and Rs 5800,000 for the killing of a woman. Rs 14 million fine was imposed on the Mahars and Rs 12.6 million on the Jatois.

Karim Dino Budani read out the verdict after which the elders and tribesmen of the two tribes embraced each other and exchanged felicitations over the end of bloody war.

It was the seventh Jirga in 23 years since the two sides went to war over a plot of land in 1985. The six Jirgas held in 1990, 1991, 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2005 failed after one or the other tribe refused to accept their decisions.

Former Provincial Minister Sindh, Mir Manzoor Panhwar presided over the Jirga in which Sardar Ali Gohar Khan Mahar District Nazim Ghotki, MNA Ghous Bux Khan Mahar and Ali Nawaz alias Raja Mahar represented the Mahars and Sardar Khadim Hussain Jatoi, Dr. Ibrahim Jatoi and Abid Hussain Jatoi represented the Jatois.


Efforts for elimination of diseases lauded | 4/11/2008

The efforts of all those organisations and people who are fighting for elimination of various diseases deserve every appreciation and the district government will extend them all co-operation.

District Nazim Ghotki Sardar Ali Gohar Khan Mahar has said this while talking to a visiting delegation led by Human Development Society (HDS) Joint Secretary Nousheen Shakeel at his office on Wednesday.

The delegation members included Dr Shabana Solangi, Dr Zeba Chandio, Yasmin Shah, Dr Tahira Baloch and Maqsood Ahmed. The delegation said on May 19, International Hypertension Day would be observed and in this regard they wanted to hold free medical camps in all towns to create awareness about high blood pressure. At these camps blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol etc would be checked free-of-cost.

They pointed out that at those free medical camps, morning teaching programmes had been scheduled for family physicians. They requested the District Nazim to visit those medical camps and cooperate in organising them. According to the delegation, avoiding smoking along with exercising, reduced usage of salt and oil provides protection against blood pressure and other diseases.

Ali Gohar Khan Mahar assured the delegation of all co-operation by the District Government and said that to attain positive results, it was essential that various NGOs, organisations and individuals should work together with the District Government.
Fahim praises Asif's reconciliation policy | 4/4/2008
Senior vice chairman of Pakistan People's Party Makhdoom Amin Fahim on Thursday appreciated the reconciliatory steps, taken by the co-chairman Pakistan People's Party Asif Ali Zardari, while talking to reporters at Sukkar Airport.

Fahim said that he has never made any issue of "ego" nor his quite position is the result of any compromise.

"I want to see the party strong and for this purpose I have played my role to save the party. Asif Ali Zardari's policy of reconciliation is a good sign and it will bear a fruit", he said. He said objective of the PPP is accomplish the dream of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and hoped it will be achieved. Amin Fahim had come here to take part in the 29th death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He went to Naudero and offered Fateha at the graves of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto and laid flowers wreath on their graves.
Fed Information Minister visits IBA Sukkur | 3/4/2008
Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Nisar A. Memon visited Sukkur Institute of Business Administration (IBA) on Monday.

Director IBA, Sukkur, Nisar Ahmed Siddique briefed the Minister about the registration of students and strength of the Institute.

He informed the Minister that there were 700 regular students in the institution excluding 300 students registered in the newly introduced foundation classes.

He further said efforts were underway to start video conferences in the Institute very shortly by way of which the Sukkur IBA would be linked with the business education institutions globally.

The Minister lauded the best conception of foundation classes and the video conference system, which he said, was a welcome step and hopefully would be of optimum benefit for teachers and the taught in the years ahead.

Later, the Minister had a round of various sections of the IBA.
