THE WIZARD OF OZ
Long, long ago, in the famine ravaged part of Kansas, home of tornadoes, lived a young girl, named Dorothy with her uncle and aunt. The house she lived in was like a cabin made of modest little logs. She
had none to play with except a sweet and playful little dog, Toto.
Once a strong tornado lashed the area left and right.
Helpless Dorothy had no time to escape anywhe in the cellar with her playmate Toto. The terrible gust of wind razed her little house. She, somehow, managed to stay on one piece.
Tired a and cautiot She went came to a s and went o her.
Tired and sad, Dorothy entered her bedroom slowly
and cautiously.
She went into a sound sleep. The sound and fury,
came to a stop. Dorothy awoke, opened the door
and went out to see the devastated world around
her.
To her surprise, Dorothy found herself in a
wonderful land, full of multi-colored flowers and
greeneries all over. At some distance, she met curious
looking inmates, introducing them selves one by one.
The strange creatures were Munchkins. They were living
in the land of Oz. There also lived a good witch of the
north. The witch informed Dorothy that the land of Oz
was under the sway of a great magician,
Wizard of Oz, living in the Emerald City,
Knowing about the magic land, Dorothy ran into worry.
She wanted to go home to live with her uncle and
aunt there in Kansas. The good witch of the nort told Dorothy to seek help from the Wizard of Oz.
Only he could take her out to her home. The witch then showed her the way to the Emerald City with a kiss and a pair of silver magic shoes as a safety to her and her little dog. The journey started. On the way
Dorothy met a scarecrow, a tin man and a lion. These new companions of her were also wanted to meet the Wizard for their own purposes.
They all reached the Emerald City after many adventures.
The city was aglow with green sparkling lights. The guard at the gate let them in, giving each of them a pair of special glasses so as to be safe from blindness of the brilliant lights. He then explained that the wizard could appear in any shape and that Dorothy would be the first to see the Wizard.
The Wizard appeared with a huge head sans body, arms and legs. He agreed to help Dorothy on the condition that she had to kill the 'wicked witch of the west'.
Dorothy was at her wits end as how to do that. The Wizard then appeared to the scarecrow in the form of a beautiful young maiden, telling him to help Dorothy in exchange of a brain he wanted.
Now it was the turn of the tinman. Here the Wizard appeared in the shape of a dreadful monster, commanding him to kill the witch in exchange for a heart. In the end, the lion met the Wizard as a ball of fire, ordering him
to help his friends in order to be worthy of gaining courage.
All the four, united together to get their objectives fulfilled, began the search for the 'wicked witch of the west'. In the process, they landed in a dark and dense forest. There they came to know that the wicked witch was blind of one eye.
The remaining eye had a magic touch. And she could see anything, be that at any distance Anyway, the wicked witch saw the four friends,
She was enraged and sent her agents to stop their
advance towards her. So, huge wolfs, savage crow and gigantic black wasps tried to grab the four enemies,
But they failed miserably in their mission in the face of their determined bid. The encounter did not end. Finally, the wicked witch sent her flying monkeys that caught them unaware and took them to the witch's castle. They all were imprisoned.
The next morning, Dorothy was taking a bath. The wicked witch took it an opportune moment and took one of silver shoes of Dorothy. Dorothy begged for her shoes but the witch declined the request.
This enraged Dorothy. She threw a bucketful water right on witch's face. This resulted in shrinkage of the witch, who was eventually, melted completely into a pool of water and was seen no more thereafter.
The disappearance of the witch brought jubilation
and celebration throughout the length and breadth of the country.
The four friends returned to the Wizard of Oz. He was all thankful and granted them their wishes. The scarecrow got a brain, Tin Man a heart and the Lion lots of courage.
Dorothy was also able to go home with her playmate Toto. Reuniting with her uncle and aunt in Kansas in a newly built farm house, where they all lived in all ease and happiness for ever.
